Manteca resident Mike Barkley has secured a spot on the Nov. 5 ballot to face incumbent Congressman Tom McClintock for the District 5 seat.
As of Wednesday, McClintock had 57 percent (72,194 votes) while Barkley was at 34 percent (42,656 votes) in the three-way race.
The third candidate — small business owner Steve Wozniak of Modesto who had not party preference — had the remaining votes.
McClintock beat Barkley in the 2022 general election by securing 61 percent of the vote.
Barkley is a Democrat while McClintock is a Republican.
District 5 consists of all of Amador, Calaveras, Tuolumne, Mariposa, and parts of El Dorado, Stanislaus, Madera, and Fresno counties.
Congressional members are not required to reside within the district they represent.
Barkey was an unsuccessful candidate in primary races in 2012, 2014 and 2018 to represent District 10.
He is a lawyer, small business owner and rancher.
