A homeless man walked into the Manteca Planet Fitness Gym on Tuesday and grabbed a female member by the hair.

The man was immediately subdued and brought to the ground by other gym members and held until Manteca Police officers responded.

The 41 year-old male and female member did not know each other.

Trumaine Lavel Walden, a Manteca transient, was arrested for battery on a person and a probation violation. He was booked into San Joaquin County jail.

The incident happened at 429 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the Planet Fitness Gym located at 1305 W. Yosemite Avenue. 

 Information about the female victim is not being released. 

Manteca Police stressed there were no weapons involved in the crime. 

A member of the community posted a picture to the Nextdoor website showing the suspect was armed with a machete. 

But the item in the picture is actually a rubber /plastic toy that lights up. 

The toy is made of bendable rubber /plastic and was on Walden’s person but not used in the crime. The toy was discovered during a search incident to his arrest.
