Ana Murguia-Jauregui, Nidhin Kurian, and Taylor Spears were recently honored by the San Joaquin County Board of Education for their quick thinking and teamwork during a medical emergency in October.

Nidhin Kurian, Ana Murguia-Jauregui, and Taylor Spears were recognized by the San Joaquin County Board of Education for taking quick action to aid a student last month during a medical emergency.

The student is enrolled in the San Joaquin County special education class at Golden West Elementary School, and was having medical issues at the time.

“Thanks to the quick thinking and teamwork of these individuals, 911 was called, CPR was administered, and care continued until first responders arrived. Their dedication didn’t stop there — they stayed by the student’s side in the ambulance and at the hospital,” said SJCOE via social media on Nov. 20.

Kurian is a speech therapist at Manteca Unified while Murguia-Jauregui and Spears serve as teacher and nurse, respectively, for SJCOE.

The three were honored for their “compassion, courage, and unwavering commitment to our students,” said SJCOE.

The special education classrooms are partnership with SJCOE and Manteca Unified.
