Charlie Halford is headed for re-election to a second term on the Manteca City Council while three people have qualified to run for the Area 2 seat.

No one else filed for the Area 1 seat expect for Halford by Friday’s 5 p.m. deadline.

City Clerk Cassie Candini-Tilton indicated Gabriel Galletta’s nomination papers turned in early Friday afternoon had enough signatures of voters verified by the county elections department as being residents of Area 2 in southeast Manteca to qualify for the ballot.

Galletta was a last minute entry into the council race as he had only taken out nomination papers for circulation on Thursday.

He joins Regina Lackey and Judith Blumhorst who had previously qualified to appear on the Nov. 5 ballot for the Area 2 seat.

Area 2 consists of the areas in Manteca that are east of Union Road and south of the 120 Bypass as well as east of Highway 99 except for the Collective neighborhood.

Halford, who was first elected at large in 2020 before the switch to district elections, will represent Area 1 for the next four years.

Area 1 includes all of Manteca to the southwest of the intersection of Louise Avenue and Union Road. It also encompasses the area bounded by Louise on the north, the Tidewater Bikeway on the east then — jogging westward along Alameda Street — east of Hacienda Avenue/Walnut Avenue and El Capitan Avenue and then from El Capitan along Wawona to Union Road.
