Manteca residents noticed no cars outside the Great Wolf indoor water park resort.
On top of that, there were a number of fire trucks around the 5-story structure that includes 500 hotel rooms.
Looked a tad ominous but it was good news.
It was a periodic break that Great Wolf takes to completely deep clean their facilities, run more extensive safety checks than they do on a daily basis, and perform any major maintenance projects.
Manteca Fire Chief Dave Marques said fire crews take the opportunity to do training to step up their preparedness if there is a major incident at Great Wolf.
Not only is Great Wolf the largest hotel in the entire Central Valley from Redding to Bakersfield, it is the highest building in Manteca as well as being the largest commercial structure that also has the most people using it at any given time.
Marques noted the slides and other play features were dry when firefighters were training.
It should be noted that 98 plus percent of the water used in the water park portion of Great Wolf is recycled.
Great Wolf uses a state of the art recycling system with a series of mechanized pumps, filters and tanks to purify the water before it is circulated back into the park,
Given the water park is indoors and 100 percent climate-controlled water loss due to evaporation is very minimal.
As for the 500 hotel rooms, they appear to follow water consumption of hotels throughout California.
Typical hotels use about 150 gallons of water per room per day. Great Wolf, according to environmental documents compiled when the city was reviewing the project, could use 231 gallons per room according to conservative estimates.
One reason for the higher water usage is that each room in Great Wolf is a suite and meant to hold large families.
Larger families use more water. Other hotels could have one person in a room. The rooms at Great Wolf have multiple people in them.
