Kicking for A Cure soccer match at Manteca High’s Guss Schmiedt Field will take place Friday with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting Ava Paige Williams and her family.
She’s the 8-year-old Manteca girl who was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, having gone through four open heart surgeries in her young life.
The second grader at Shasta Elementary School is at UCSF awaiting a heart transplant.
Kicking for A Cure begins at 5 p.m. with JV game against Lathrop High. The varsity match between the Buffaloes and Spartans in a non-league affair is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. Included will be silent auctions taking place during the game along with a raffle. Monetary donations are also welcome.
“With (Ava Willians) facing surgery for a heart transplant and the potential for an extended hospital stay, ongoing medical appointments, and follow-up care, her parents and family are faced with a significant financial burden,” said Coenenberg, who recently addressed the MHS Athletic Boosters for their support.
The Kicking for a Cure game, traditionally, was held to bring local awareness and hope to the fight against cancer while also supporting students in the community.
Coenenberg added that the change in direction for this year was to help a Manteca girl in need.
In addition, a Fagundes Dinner Fundraiser by Ava Heart Warrior will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
Cost is $20 per dinner, consisting of tri tip, chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, and Italian green beans.
Dinners can be picked up from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Fagundes Meats & Catering, 142 Jason St.
Tickets may be purchased by email: Ricci Patton at rpatton@musd.net or Katie Francis at kfrancis@musd.net.
