Thursday’s lunch menu at Apolinar Sangalang Park called for a choice of barbecue hotdogs or veggie burgers.
The latter is the vegan option offered in Manteca Unified’s Seamless Summer Lunch program, according MUSD Nutrition Services Supervisor Josie Contreras.
This was the second time this summer that Sangalang Park hosted the one-hour barbecue lunch – the menu on that day consisted of hamburger with or without cheese along with the veggie option.
The lunches are served Mondays through Friday at the various locations throughout the school district and are free for those age 2 through 18 but must be eaten at the site.
The Summer Seamless Lunch program is in its final two weeks. The last day is Friday, July 21.
Contreras, who has been with MUSD since 2010, and her crew consisting of Alicia Alvarado, Thomas Laruta, and Linda Lund, have been serving up to 150 youngsters at each of the parks during the barbecue events.
“They also get a choice of fruit, vegetables, and chips with their meal,” Contreras said.
Each of the free lunch events can double for a family fun day. Children can engage in organized activities spearheaded by students in the MUSD Summer Internship Program.
