The Manteca Unified School District kicked off with the free Seamless Lunch Summer Program this week.
Included are 28 locations throughout the district. Of that, 21 are at various city parks in Manteca along with four in Lathrop, and three in Stockton’s Weston Ranch community.
At Lathrop’s Valverde Park, the MUSD Nutrition Education team of Priscilla Verdugo and Anna Mac served up about 190 lunches during stops at their four locations – Mossdale Landing Community Park, Lathrop Generations Center, Valverde and Chadwick Square Park (Manteca) – on that first day Wednesday.
“It’s not as busy today (Thursday),” said Verdugo, who is in her first year of the Seamless Lunch Summer Program.
Just after 12 noon, she and Anna Mac served up about 23 free lunches – included on this day were a choice of the packaged Any Time Pizza, edamame, fresh fruit (orange), juice, chocolate milk and regular milk – to local youngsters at Valverde Park on Day 2.
The program will run from now through July 18.
The free Seamless Lunch Summer Program ensures every youngster aged 2-18 will have access to healthy food choices.
The meals must be consumed on-site.
MUSD will also host BBQs and Farmers Markets during the summer at specific dates at the various park locations.
