The last new supermarket to open in Manteca was Food-4-Less roughly 24 years ago.
Food-4-Less will also be the next new supermarket to open in Manteca.
Food 4 Less will open its second Manteca store in the southwest portion of the city.
It will be the 55,000-square-foot anchor tenant in Manteca Crossing now under construction at Atherton Drive and Airport Way.
The company will keep its existing location open.
The new location will differ somewhat from its existing four existing four stores in Stockton as well as the Manteca and Lodi locations
It will have more “upscale” offerings.
The new store will be within three miles of Food-4-Less’ distribution center on Tesla Drive in Lathrop.
Mayor Gary Singh indicated by the time the dust settles he expects to see four new supermarkets south of the 120 Bypass.
There are other grocery chains in talks with developers in other locations.
Singh indicated the decision by the grocery chain to open a second store and keep the existing location open speaks volumes about “the potential power of the Manteca economy” as growth continues to make the city more attractive to retailers.
The city’s sustained growth and its positioning to keep growing has placed it on the radar of chains that are more laser focused on where they expand with brick and mortar stores in the age of online competition.
There are upwards of 4,000 homes that will end up being built southwest of Airport Way and the 120 Bypass.
That’s between what is already built, what is under construction, and what has been approved but yet to break ground.
One of those approved that has just broken ground is the 818-home Lumina neighborhood on the southwest corner of Woodward Avenue and Airport Way.
Work is also underway on a Chick-fil-A, Duitch Bros., and Quick Quack Car Wash at Manteca Crossings where Food-4-Less will be opening its second store.
A Maverik gas station with 14 fueling stations, 8 commercial fueling stations, and a 6,140-square-foot convenience store with 38 parking spaces is expected to break ground in 2025.
The is 47,200 square feet of additional retail and restaurant space being built.
Also coming is a four-story, 117-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel.
