The sales of safe and sane fireworks in Manteca, Lathrop, and Ripon officially kicked off at noon Wednesday

Proceeds from TNT and Phantom – the two leading retailers in consumer fireworks during the Fourth of July week celebration – will benefit the local nonprofit, service and school organizations.

“It will help keep our doors open,” said Shari Deardorff of His Way Recovery House.

Her husband, Brother Al, founded the first His Way Recovery House – described on the website www.hiswayrecovery.org as “a clean, sober, safe, stable, and supportive environment so that the residents can begin to fine-tune their lives” – in 2001.

His Way Recovery, which was recently awarded Non-Profit of the Year by the Manteca Chamber of Commerce, currently has 11 such homes with plans of opening several more in the future.

Located at 1431 W. Yosemite Ave., the His Way Recovery’s TNT Fireworks booth enjoyed a good opening day, according to Deardorff. The hours of operation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. or later from now through Tuesday.
