Fireworks now on sale thru July 4th’
fireworks booth

Today is the official start of the sales of safe and sane fireworks.

Proceeds from TNT and Phantom – the two leading retailers in consumer fireworks during the Fourth of July week celebration – will once again benefit the local nonprofit, service and school organizations in Manteca, Lathrop, and Ripon.

State law allows legal fire works to be discharged during the seven days in jurisdictions that opt to allow their sales in the week leading up to the Fourth of July.

The Ripon Police Department and the Ripon Consolidated Fire District will be among the agencies looking out for those in violation of the local ordinances.

This means no firecrackers, torpedoes, skyrockets, roman candles, bombs, sparklers, chasers, snakes, or other fireworks containing any explosive or flammable substances.

While safe and sane fireworks are legal, Ripon Fire Chief Eric DeHart said this week that the booth-bought pyrotechnics are to be used as intended.

“Don’t elevate them high above on a ladder or place on the roof while using,” he said, encouraging all to be responsible.

DeHart added that such fireworks should not be used in a dry field or grass. An adult should be present at all times.

“Have something nearby to extinguish fires like a bucket of water,” he said.

The Manteca Fire Department and Manteca Police Department echoed safety and being responsible while celebrating the Fourth of July.

Police will also be monitoring areas using drones throughout the week, and will be allowed to cite owners, occupants and others on properties where fireworks are being discharged illegally.

Any fireworks not labeled “Safe and Sane” will come a hefty $1,000 fine.

The City of Manteca, in addition, posted the location of the firework booths along with the non-profit organizations benefiting from the sales in town.
