Nick Dillis and Mike Morenzone are the newest members of the East Union High Hall of Fame.
They were recognized Friday during a ceremony held in the school cafeteria.
The induction event took place at Dino Cunial Field.
Principal Eric Simoni welcomed newly enshrined Dillis and Morenzone during the halftime event of the Lancers’ grid clash against longtime rival Manteca High.
Here’s a little about the new EU Hall of Famers:
Mike Morenzone
He was the longtime volleyball and softball coach at the school, where, in volleyball, he posted a 295-91 record during his 20 years at the helm of the program.
During the span that began in 1985, Morenzone’s Lancers won nine VOL titles and one section championship, accumulating an impressive 181-51 record in league play.
His JV volleyball team was also successful, going 32-2 while winning a league crown.
In softball, East Union, under Morenzone, posted a 285-96 overall mark, including 170-38 in VOL play with nine championships and a section title.
He was presented during the inductee ceremony by his former players Carey Simoni (volleyball) and Heather Solomon (softball).
Morenzone, who retired in 2013, is also in the Manteca Hall of Fame for Athletics and was twice named Model Coach of the Year for Modesto District. He served as the Athletic Director at Weston Ranch High and was nine times coach of the year in the VOL.
Nick Dillis
He was on the original teachers at East Union High, joining the staff in 1966 – a few years before the opening of the campus.
Dillis had a 25 year in education that began in 1965 as a teacher at Manteca High. He said teaching was the only thing he ever wanted to do.
During his tenure at East Union, Dillis taught U.S. History, World History, and Geography.
He developed a new curriculum class at the school – History of the 1940s and 1950s.
Presenting Nick Dillis to the 2024-2025 EU Hall of Fame was his brother, John Dillis.
