Four new members will be inducted into the East Union High Hall of Fame.
The enshrinement ceremony honoring Yasmeen ‘Jazz’ Herrera, Mark Kackley, Doug Swift, and Rick Wohle (posthumous) is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the Dalben Center’s Bill Stricker Court.
The 7 p.m. special event will take place prior to the Valley Oak League boys basketball finale featuring the Lancers hosting rival Sierra High.
As for the inductees, Herrera, who graduated in 2005, was a standout athlete for the Lady Lancers. She played basketball under coach Rick Inderbitzen, and continued her basketball playing days at California State University-Los Angeles and CSU-Monterey Bay.
Kackley is from the EU Class of 1991. He was a member of the 1989 East Union High football team that not only won the Valley Oak League crown, but also made it to the Sac-Joaquin Section Finals that year.
Swift, who is a 1975 graduate of the school, was a 1,000 rusher at fullback during his playing day for the Lancers. He was a key member on the 1974 VOL championship football team, and also played baseball for EU.
Wohle was an assistant under head coach Vern Gebhardt on that undefeated 1974 Lancers football team. He later became the principal of the Manteca Adult School and was the Director of Secondary Education for the Manteca Unified School District. Sadly, Wohle passed away this past July.
