Current Lathrop Mayor Sonny Dhaliwal has built himself a sizable war chest in his pursuit to represent the community he now serves on the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors.

According to his most recent filings, Dhaliwal has raised over $213,000 in his pursuit of the District 3 seat currently occupied by Tom Patti – who will be terming out next year after his second stint on the board.

District 3 encompasses Lathrop and Manteca’s city limits as well as parts of northwest Stockton and the Delta.

Dhaliwal, who is currently serving his sixth term as Lathrop’s mayor – the longest-serving in the city’s history – announced his candidacy for the race for Board of Supervisors back in February.

“I am humbled by the support I have received from the residents of San Joaquin County,” Dhaliwal said. “This isn’t just about campaign funds, but about the trust and faith that people have placed in my leadership.

“This is a collective effort, and I am committed to serving the people with integrity, vision, and hard work.”

In an FPPC 460 form filed with San Joaquin County last month, Dhaliwal raised almost $207,000 in monetary contributions during the first six months of this year plus an additional $7,000 in non-monetary contributions.

After spending nearly $25,000 during the same time frame, Dhaliwal’s campaign had more than $182,000 in cash on hand as of July 1.

According to the filing, while Dhaliwal did receive some contributions from people outside of the area – several donations were listed from Bay Area communities – the vast majority were from individuals in the Central Valley and the majority of those were from people that he would represent if elected to the position.

Dhaliwal, who has represented Lathrop at the county level on a variety of important boards, will face competition in the race from former Manteca Mayor Steve DeBrum – who announced shortly after Dhaliwal that he would seek Patti’s seat when he terms out in 2024.

“If I didn’t believe in myself, I wouldn’t be running,” Dhaliwal said. “We want safer neighborhoods for our residents. We want good schools for our kids.

“And we want low fees and taxes for our working families, small businesses, and senior citizens.”
