FRENCH CAMP — The retention and recruitment of sheriff deputies thanks to a contract put in place in November is being highlighted by the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors as the most significant investment in public safety in 2024.
Supervisors has approved new three-year contracts for the Deputy Sheriff’s Association (DSA) and the Sheriff Deputy Sergeants Association (SDSA) to improve recruitment, retention, and compensation for public safety personnel.
The DSA agreement, representing 282 deputies, runs from November 12, 2024, to November 12, 2027, while the SDSA agreement, covering 43 sergeants, spans December 3, 2024, to December 3, 2027.
Both contracts provide an 18% base wage increase over three years, updated benefits and leave policies, increased call-back pay, and additional pay supplements for specialized duties and certifications.
Board Chairman Miguel Villapudua emphasized public safety as a top priority, expressing gratitude for the dedication of deputies and sergeants.
Sheriff Patrick Withrow praised the agreements, stating they improve morale, aid in recruiting and retaining top talent, and ensure San Joaquin County remains an attractive place for law enforcement careers.
