The deadline for candidates to file for the Nov. 5 election is today (Aug. 9) at 5 p.m.

According to the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters office, that’s when the nomination period concludes for incumbents and challengers vying for the local school board, city council, and mayoral races.

As of Thursday, Melanie Greene, who is the incumbent for Manteca Unified School District Trustee Area 3, was the latest seeking to re-up on another four years.

The terms of Eric Duncan (Trustee Area 1) and Marisella Guerro (Trustee Area 7) are also on expiring.

Bob Wallace, who is a retired educator and ex-MUSD board member, is a candidate for Trustee Area 7.

The Ripon Unified school board has two seats that are up for grabs.

Thus far, board President Caroline Hutto and provisional Trustee Harpal Chandar have filed and are on the recent Qualified Candidates List.

Hutto represents Trustee Area 4, having served on RUSD board since 2016

Chandar is the provisional board member for Trustee Area 5. She was appointed in June to complete the term previously held by Christina Orlando, who served 12 years on the local school board.

Ripon City Council

Mayor Leo Zuber along with Daniel de Graaf and Gary Barton will be seeking another four years.

The three incumbents took out their candidate papers in recent weeks for the upcoming at-large election according to City Clerk Lisa Roos.

Lathrop City Council

Minnie “Cotton” Diallo and Jennifer Torres-O’Callahan are both looking at being re-elected.

Diallo is the currently serving as vice mayor, having recently been added to the Qualified Candidate Roster.

Steve Dresser, who is a former Lathrop City Council member, is challenging for one of the two seats – both four-year terms – in the at-large election (the Lathrop mayor race is also conducted at-large).

Lathrop Mayor

The mayoral term in Lathrop is that of a two-year term.

As of Thursday, five qualified candidates are vying to become the next mayor.

Included are current council member Paul Akinjo along with current Planning Commissioner  Paul Camarena, Diana Radonic, Mansoor Fazel, and Venkat Vempati.
