Deadline to apply for next Ripon Junior Police Academy session is upcoming Friday

The Ripon Police Department provided a reminder this week on the upcoming Junior Police Academy.

Application are still being accepted for the Advanced course scheduled for July 8 through July 19 at the police station, 259 N. Wilma Ave.

Those interested are required to have completed the Basic course the previous year.

Cost is $45. The class will be limited to 25 students.

Applications are due by June 28.

Besides having completed the Basic course, the Advanced sessions also required for those interested to have at least a “C” average in school and no criminal record with the Ripon Police Department.

They’ll receive a “Junior Police Academy” t-shirt along with binder, followed by a certificate of completion.

Along the way, the cadets will undergo physical training, do mock traffic stops and DUI enforcement, and take part in investigative scenarios, CPR / First Aide training and certification.

They’ll also learn basic defensive tactics, go on field trips, and hear guest speakers from other law enforcement agencies.
