Council OKs new evidence building for Lathrop Police

The Lathrop City Council voted in December to enter into a contract with LDA Partners to design the Property and Evidence Building that will be used by the Lathrop Police Department.

And earlier this month the council voted to approve a contract amendment that will expand the scope of the San Joaquin County-based firm’s involvement in the project to include additional engineering and design work and providing construction administration services.

The $178,625 contract will bring Lathrop even closer to finally having its own dedicated facility for property and evidence storage to support the Lathrop Police Department – which is currently contracting with the Ripon Police Department to provide those same services.

According to the staff report prepared for the council, the amendment will expand the scope of services for LDA Partners on the project to include the design work for the site and building placement revisions, monument signage, additional electrical modifications, a ballistics room, and updated HVAC system, and additional building revisions.

The firm – which designed the Lathrop Police Department building as well as the Lathrop Generations Center – will also serve as the construction administrator on the project once construction begins.

The cost of the contract amendment will be paid with money already budgeted for improvements for the city’s corporation yard on Louise Ave. where the building will be located. The city is also currently using the corporation yard site as a place to house the city’s lost animals in a temporary animal shelter that was approved by the council for the site until a permanent facility can be built.

LDA Partners, based in Stockton, includes East Union graduate Eric Wohle amongst its administrative team. Wohle represented the firm on projects that include the Manteca Transit Center, the overhaul of Lathrop Manteca Station 31 in the heart of Lathrop, Manteca Fire Station #4, the Lathrop Police Department building in River Islands, and the City of Ripon’s Corporation Yard amongst many others.
