Cooling centers in Manteca, Lathrop; water play feature feature is working in Ripon
HEAT

Cooling Centers in Manteca and Lathrop will be open this week for those seeking refuge from the triple-degree temperatures.

An excessive heat warning was issued Monday for San Joaquin County, calling for dangerously hot conditions – temperatures of 105 plus – with resultant widespread major heat risk.

In Manteca, the Senior Center, 295 Cherry Lane., will be open to all residents, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., as a safe and cool place to escape the summer heat.

“We invite everyone in the community to take advantage of this resource. Whether you need a break from the sun or a place to relax in a cool environment, our center is here for you,” said the City of Manteca via social media, adding: “It’s important to stay hydrated and find relief from the high temperatures.”

The schedule for the cooling center is through Saturday, July 6.

The Community Room of the Lathrop Police Department, 940 River Islands Parkway, will serve as the Cooling Center through Friday, July 5.

Hours of operation will be from noon to 7 p.m. – the center will close at 6 p.m. if no attendees are present, police noted.

In addition, the Cooling Center will accommodate household pets as well as companion animals.

“All residents are advised to maintain proper hydration and to utilize a cool shelter during this extreme heat weather event,” police added.
