Chromebook laptops from Frontier Communications were distributed Thursday at Manteca High to those families participating in the California State University Fresno Parent Advisory group partnership supporting their students.

All told, 350 families were handed Chromebooks that afternoon in the school cafeteria, including Gabriela Buenrostro, whose son Daniel is a senior at the school.

She was thrilled to get the brand-new laptop.1

Ditto that for school officials.

“MHS was excited to offer our families the opportunity to further support their student with in-person learning in the classroom. Access to Q Parent Connect, our learning websites, and school public website will enable families with equitable direct contact with their child’s education,” Principal Frank Gonzales said.

Furthermore, he indicated that the Chromebooks will help families stay connected with their student’s studies and homework.

“Families will be able to keep the Chromebook to assist their student or students’ academic success while providing an essential digital-age device to advance student learning and achievement,” he said, thanking Frontier Communications and the California Emerging Technology Fund for the generous donation to help the MHS families.

Frontier Communications was equally pleased to be a community partner and join with CETF to provide devices to enable parents to connect to the Internet, their teachers and their classrooms.

“We recognize the additional challenges created by the COVID pandemic that are impacting families and the education opportunities of students attending MHS,” said Joe Gamble, who is the Senior Vice President for Frontier Communications West Region.

He added: “Frontier remains committed to the California communities we serve and is proud to partner with CETF in helping 16 school districts and 350 families living on Tribal Lands.”

Families, in addition, will own the Chromebook and, in turn, will be hopefully be encouraged to increase family engagement with their school and public services.
