LATHROP’S BIRTHDAY BLAST
Jul 1
The Breakfast Klub, one of the premiere 80s tribute bands, will be performing at the July 1 Lathrop Birthday Celebration at the Generations Center.

A few temporary road closures will take place on July 1 in Lathrop.

That’s in order to make way for the annual Birthday Celebration, honoring the incorporation of the City of Lathrop that took place 36 years ago. Organizers are anticipating more than 10,000 in attendance.

Entertainment will be a performance by The Breakfast Klub, one of the premier 80s tribute bands.

Admission is free.

The Lathrop City Council recently approved the shutting down Crespi Street and Locomotive Street on that day – notably, Crespi Street from Spartan Way to Locomotive Street, and Locomotive Street from Jewel and Bacarra Street.

The July 1 special event will begin at 6 p.m. at the Lathrop Generations Center, and will also include Leland and Jane Stanford Park.

The Lathrop Parks and Recreation Department is coordinating the temporary street closures, with Public Works, Community Development, Lathrop Police Department, and the Lathrop-Manteca Fire District, in an effort to ensure the safety of this event.

The plan calls for setting up barricades on Crespi and Locomotive streets by 12 noon.

“Each barricade closure will still allow for traffic to flow through the neighborhood but not allow non-emergency vehicular traffic into the event,” according to the staff report from the June 9 meeting.

The Lathrop Police Department and the Lathrop-Manteca Fire District will also have emergency vehicles placed strategically throughout the event, allowing for quick response to call, if necessary.

The temporary road closures will be in effect through 11 p.m.

Besides live music, the July 1 Lathrop Birthday Celebration will feature the walking parade at 6:30 p.m. at the Generations Center, 450 Spartan Wy.

Pre-registration is suggested but not required for those looking to take part in the walking parade – participants can decorate wagons and strollers while dressing up in red, white & blue, looping along the City of Lathrop facility to the Kids Stage.

Food trucks, vendors, carnival games, and aerial fireworks are all part of the celebration.
