For the first time since the COVID-19 lockdown, Delta College held Engineering & Technology Day.
The 32nd annual event consisted of students from grades 9-12, competing in drafting, robotics, and “Maze Machine” design.
One of the standout schools at the recent event was the Calla High robotics team.
“Our students competed against Edison High, where they secured first, second, and third places in the STEM competition,” said Manteca Unified via social media (proudtobemusd).
The robotics team, under the dedicated leadership of teachers Sandra Suzuki and Kevin Talistu, displayed exceptional skill and teamwork by completing the sweep.
Taking first place from Calla was Tomas Rice and Santiago Solis.
Placing second was the duo of Jay Arango and Hayden Hokanson.
Andrea Montoya Majano placed third.
The robotics competition was held in Budd 221, with contestants from Calla and Edison programming autonomous mobile robots to complete an obstacle course.
According to the Daily Collegian, the contestants’ robots “needed to follow a set course while successfully avoiding obstacles in their path, all without the aid of a remote control.”
