Some 94 students from Calla High had overcome their share of adversity in coming together Friday to celebrate graduation.
“You’ve had some incredible ups and downs,” said a representative of the Manteca Unified continuation school site to the Class of 2019. “Your future will (now) be defined by where you go from here.”
Pomp & Circumstance — the traditional Edward Elgar graduation tune was performed by the Sierra High under the direction of Rick Hammarstrom — was held at Calvary Community Church.
Principal Dan Beukelman welcomed those in attendance and introduced the special guests — notably, the Manteca Unified school board consisting of President Stephen Schuler, Bob Wallace, CAthy Pope-Gotschall and Karen Pearsall along with Superintendent Clark Burke. Chyanne Smith was the student speaker.
