Since late October, the Stanislaus River Bike / Pedestrian Bridge in the Ripon Recreation Area of the Stanislaus River Park has been closed due to some significant damage. The City of Ripon is in the process of weighing in on repair and funding options on the bridge.

The Stanislaus River Bike / Pedestrian Bridge has been out of commission for nearly three months.

Significant damage occurred back then when a large tree on the Ripon side of the Stanislaus River fell onto to a segment of the bridge that crosses the Stanislaus River

On Tuesday, the Ripon City Council will address the issue by listening to staff give an update on repair and funding options in moving forward.

The monthly session will take place in the Council Chamber at Ripon City Hall, 259 N. Wilma Ave., beginning at 6 p.m.

The incident occurred on Oct. 22.

“The tree was removed immediately to relieve the weight – a structural engineer was contact to perform an assessment,” said Public Works Director James Pease in his staff report.

The structural engineer who performed the analysis found that the bridge, in its current condition, “must remain closed for the safety of the public due to the risk of failure,” Pease added.

In other agenda items:

·         Elected leaders will look to adopt the usage policy for the recently installed Electronic Message Center in front of the Ripon Police Department / City Hall.

·         They’re scheduled to enter into an agreement with Basecamp Environmental, inc. to provide environmental services required for the Arc Way Development Project, consisting of a convenience store and gas station, not to exceed $30,390.
