The Manteca Community Interfaith Community (MICA) Appeal is sponsoring a Day of Peace to coincide with the International Day of Peace on Sept. 21.

MICA has asked "Braver Angels" to conduct a workshop for the community of Manteca.

Braver Angels is leading the nation’s largest cross-partisan, volunteer-led movement to bridge the partisan divide for the good of our democratic republic.

The organization on its website notes “as we head into the elections, we’re bringing together ‘We the People’ to find a hopeful alternative to toxic politics.  The American Hope campaign is equipping Americans across the political spectrum to work together and demand the same of politicians from both parties.”

You can find out more about the organization  by going to their website at braverangels.org.

MICA is inviting local government officials and candidates from both sides of the aisle to participate in discussions.

Former Manteca mayor and San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors  hopeful Steve DeBrum has already confirmed he will be attending.

The event will be at St. Paul's Methodist church on the corner of Powers Avenue and North Street in Manteca.  The time is  from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21. It includes dinner.

Members of MICA include St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Transformed through Hope Ministries, The Sikh Community, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Islamic Center of Manteca, The Baha’i Faith of Manteca, and the Seventh-day Adventist church.

MICA holds events throughout the year, devoted to “bringing together people of various faiths, beliefs, and traditions around the common goals of service, education, and peace for all people."
