Both the suspect who was arrested last week for shooting into an occupied dwelling in River Islands and the person targeted were minors.
In a release intended to provide clarity after a local news segment stoked fears in the community, the Lathrop Police Department disclosed that both the shooter and person being shot at were juveniles — information that had not been previously disclosed by the agency.
By the time the news segment had aired, the suspect in the Nov. 21 shooting had already been taken into custody. The male juvenile was apprehended in Fremont with the aid of the Fremont Police Department.
While nobody was injured in the shooting, the incident rattled the quiet River Islands neighborhood on Bach Drive and prompted the police department to release more information about what had occurred while at the same time asking the public for any information that may be relevant to the investigation.
“Lathrop is home to a strong, resilient community, and we continue to work tirelessly to maintain the peace and security that we all value,” the agency said in the release. “Our dedication to service has led to significant achievements in our first year, including over 320 felony arrests and 75 guns booked, enhancing the safety of our city.
“We remain steadfast in our mission to provide the best possible service to Lathrop residents.”
