Paul Akinjo will be Lathrop’s next mayor.

The City Councilman has a 4,724 to 2,641 lead over Paul Camarena in the four-candidate race to take over from longtime mayor Sonny Dhaliwal, who was leading in a tight race with former Manteca elected leader Steve DeBrum for the San Joaquin County Supervisor District 3 seat.

With 46.7 percent of the votes from the recently released San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters’ semi-official election results, Akinjo’s has put together three successful re-election campaigns. He initially was appointed to his council seat in December 2012.

As for the other candidates, Mansoor Fazel has 2,136 and Diana Radonic tallied 751votes.

In the Lathrop City Council race, Jennifer Torres-O’Callaghan and Minnie “Cotton” Diallo, both incumbents, retained their respective  seats with 6,495 and 5,748 votes, respectively.

Challenger Steve Dresser, who is a former councilman, had 3,173votes.
