The smaked door at the T-Mobile store.

One thief in Lathrop learned that while you may be able to run, you can’t outrun aerial surveillance.

On Thursday morning, Lathrop Police officers responded to a call of a burglary at the T-Mobile Store on Cambridge Drive – and spotted the suspect running from the store into the nearby neighborhood.

A quick phone call to the Tracy Police Department resulted in officers arriving with their agency’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle that was promptly deployed and used to locate the suspect hiding on a nearby property.

They took him into custody for burglary and an existing outstanding felony warrant.

And it wouldn’t be the only time that Lathrop Police officers arrested a thief on Thursday.

While they were in the process of locating the burglary suspect, officers were notified of a call about an electric bicycle that had been stolen from a resident.

Two patrol deputies later spotted a person riding an electric bicycle fitting the description of the one that was stolen and were able to stop the subject while they determined ownership. Officers were quickly able to determine that it was in fact the stolen bicycle and took the suspected thief into custody before returning the bike to its rightful owner.

“The Lathrop Police Department is a team committed to connecting and partnering with our community, making it a safe and desirable place to live, work, and visit,” the agency wrote in its statement announcing the arrests.
