The City of Ripon’s Fleet Maintenance Facility could soon a 50-foot flag pole along with a 15-by-25-foot flag.

The City of Ripon’s Fleet Maintenance Facility officially opened not too long ago.

One addition that could be coming soon is a flag pole and, of course, a flag.

On Tuesday, the Ripon City Council will look to purchase both items at a cost not to exceed $13,180 – paid via the Corp Yard AB1600, Enterprise Capital Funds, and the General Capital Fund, pending approval.

This part of the project was part of the original design, according to Public Works Director James Pease in his staff report.

That design consisted of the installation of a 25-foot flag pole with a 5-by-7- foot flag.

“Staff explored a potential change order with the contractor (Diede Construction) to increase the size and height of the pole although an agreeable cost was never reached,” Pease said.

The City of Ripon opted to take a $5,288 credit, having it removed from the original flag pole plan. “The decision was made with the intent of purchasing and installing a larger pole and flag pole,” he added.

The city received the current quote from Patriot Flagpole, consisting of a 50-foot flag pole and a 15-by-25- foot flag along with lighting and miscellaneous accessories.

“City staff will perform the installation which will cost approximately $5,000 for material (concrete, rebar, forms, etc.) and staff time to pour the foundation and erect the flagpole,” Pease said.

Construction of the 12,500 square foot maintenance building and parking lot project was years in the planning, and is located not too far from the original facility – built in 1976, on Doak Boulevard and Vera Avenue.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in October to mark the grand opening.

This new corporate yard ensures that Ripon can handle future growth of serving up to 40,000 residents.

The monthly session will be held in the Council Chamber, 259 N. Wilma Ave, beginning at 6 p.m.
