Manteca will again take to the streets to celebrate America this summer with the return of the Fourth of July parade staged by the Sunrise Kiwanis.

The service club has indicated the parade is returning this year after being cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The early announcement is designed to encourage those that might wish to enter to mark their calendars for the Sunday, July 4, parade.

The service club is inviting 2020 graduates of Manteca, East Union, Sierra, and Calla high schools that were unable to have a traditional commencement ceremony to serve as grand marshals due to COVID-19. Plans are to reach out and invite all the graduates to march at the head of the parade. They will be invited to wear their caps and gowns if they have them. Details will be announced later.

Club President Rich Silverman said the Kiwanis are working on obtaining the necessary permits from the city.

Registration forms will be mailed out shortly. There is no fee to be an entrant (except for equestrian entries). Floats, bands, dancing groups, scouts, equestrian units, youth groups, car, families, and individuals are all invited to participate. Silverman said is not known yet if the Fire Department will be able to man the hose carts for impromptu soakings along Main Street.

Nancy Loewen and Monica Mendoza are serving as co-chairs for the parade.

Updates as well as forms will be posted to the sunrisekiwanis.org website.

A a big  'garage' sale will be held Saturday June 12 at Valley Caps 1180 N. Union Road to raise funds for the popular Kids Zone activities during the upcoming downtown Manteca Pumpkin Fair.

Silverman noted club is actively recruiting for new members. The pandemic limited recruiting for the past year but with the return to in-person meeting, they are seeking new members.

Besides the parade, the Sunrise Kiwanis put on the popular annual Pumpkin Fair and a spring dinner. The dinner this year will be a drive thru 'Ribs and Raffle' affair on June 3. Tickets are now on sale on the club's website sunrisekiwanis.org, which also has membership info.
