The lion’s share of Manteca’s $426,000 in federal pass through funds restricted to improving the lot of low- to moderate-income individuals and families is going to endeavors to assist the homeless.
The Manteca City Council earlier this month divvied up the Community Development Project Grant funding for fiscal year 2024-25.
It included $167,575 toward the city’s effort to build and operate a homeless navigation center off of Carnegie Court on the backside of 8 acres the city bought along South Main Street.
The HOPE Family Shelters will receive $197,163 toward its efforts to construct additional apartments for homeless families at Yosemite and Sequoia avenues.
The council also allocated:
*$12,000 for Give Every Child a Chance’s free tutoring services.
*$3,000 for the Emergency Food Bank’s Mobile Farmer’s Market.
*$6,000 for the Human Services Agency of San Joaquin County’s Meals on Wheels Program for low-income senior citizens.
*$8,619 for PREVAIL (Formerly Women’s Center) to help provide youth and family services.
*$14,000 for Wide Horizon to help adults with special needs to transition into the workforce.
*$9,025 for San Joaquin County Fair Housing.
The funds earmarked for the various organizations go to serve Manteca residents.
