The Ripon Unified School District may have to wait on upgrading aging facilities and classrooms.

Measure J, the $32 million bond measure, was in need of at least 55 percent ‘yes’ votes for passage in Tuesday’s election.

According the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters office, Measure J is just short of that based on votes tallied as of Wednesday afternoon.

The bond measure, at last count, received 50.55 percent in support or 3,127 ‘yes’ votes, with 3,059 votes being opposed.

The next count update will be announced on Friday at 7 p.m.

RUSD identified modernizing, renovating, replacing and / or expanding classrooms and other facilities along with replacing portable buildings with that of permanent classrooms, upgrading technology infrastructure, making safety and security improvements, just to name a few, on the Measure J project list.

The school district consists of about 3,300 students attending Ripon High, Ripon Elementary, Ripona Elementary, Colony Oak Elementary, Park View Elementary, Weston Elementary, and Harvest High. Of that, some of the schools were built 60 to 85 years ago.

RUSD, in addition, is bracing for future growth with the development of the Hat Ranch property.
