200 used bikes refreshed for Christmas giveaway today

Pete Paulsen and his crew have been working hard in fixing up 200 used bikes for this weekend’s free Bike For Kids giveaway at his French Camp ranch.

Christmas is today at the Paulsen Ranch in French Camp.

That’s the home of Pete Paulsen of Paulsen Motorsports. Over the years, he’s hosted a variety of car shows featuring his fair share of celebrities.

Come this time of year, the Paulsen Ranch at 1504 W. Bowman Road is where the annual Bike For Kids for needy families will take place – it’s one bike per family, Paulsen said.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the free giveaway will take place. Organizers will again use a number system for each car. Families will be issued a number prior to entering the Paulsen Ranch – they’ll receive a signal to enter the premises for the drive-thru event.

Santa is expected to be on hand for photos with cookies, candy canes and hot chocolate also being available for all.

Paulsen and his crew spent Friday getting bikes fixed up and ready for the giveaway. He had about 180 ready to go with his goal being 200 bikes.

This his fourth year for Bikes For Kids.

Paulsen started this endeavor after receiving donations of bikes from local yard clean-up business, Vince Haro & Company.

Many of the fix-me-uppers were initially given to children in the Haven of Peace women’s shelter program in French Camp.

Bike For Kids grew from there, becoming a non-profit organization soon after.

Paulsen relies on volunteers to help refurbish the bikes each year since. “It’s crazy over here,” he said prior to preparing for the weekend event.
