Evelyn Veltri credits good genetics and a positive attitude for her longevity.
A resident of Cogir of Manteca Senior Living, she celebrated her 103rd birthday on Friday.
“She’s unique,” said her best friend and Cogir neighbor Marie Wright. “She gets dressed up every day wearing her jewelry and all – she puts us all to shame.”
Veltri, by the way, lives in one of the unassisted apartments. She does her own cleaning of her place and handles the washing her clothes and bed sheets, Wright noted.
Wright and others were there for her 103rd birthday celebration held at Cogir.
Evelyn Veltri, who was born on Dec. 16, 1922, grew up as an only child in Johnstown, PA – located 67 miles east of Pittsburgh.
She also lived in Buffalo, NY, and recalls the many lessons passed on from her grandparents. Included was having a positive mindset.
During those early years, Veltri did plenty of walking, which also contributed to her healthy lifestyle.
“I wasn’t fond of sweets or soft drinks,” she added.
Evelyn and her husband Charlie Veltri – he worked many years in sales, passing away in 1983 – had one daughter, Debra Callahan, who moved her mother out west to Walnut Creek.
Besides her daughter, Evelyn Veltri has one grandson, Jason.
She doesn’t dwell too much on the past, but rather looks forward to each day.
According to Wright, Veltri is free of taking any sort of prescription drugs. “She takes no medicine at all – not even for blood pressure,” she said.
“I live a healthy life, including good food,” Veltri said.
She added: “I’ve had a happy life.”
