Manteca is offering a number of water programs this summer ranging from scuba diving and swim lessons to lifeguard training and open pool swim time.

The City of Manteca offers fee classes and pool time to do all of that this summer.

Unlike some jurisdictions that have slashed back recreation offerings or even closed public swimming pools due to the budget crunch, Manteca has kept theirs afloat by making sure fees cover the majority of the costs.

Swim lessons

You have the option of group or private swim lessons. Group lessons are offered on eight different skill levels with five programs designed for those 6 and older as well as three younger age specific programs for those nine months to three years, three to five years, and four to six years.

The fourth swim lessons session is now under way. One session remains. It covers a two-week period, Monday through Thursday for eight lessons at 35 minutes each from Aug. 1-11. The cost is $37 for Manteca residents and $47 for non-residents. Lessons take place at the Lincoln Park and Manteca High swimming pools.

Private swim lessons for youth or adults are available at the Manteca High pool for $100 for residents and $110 for non-residents. It consists of four 40-minute lessons. There are sessions available on Saturday for private lessons.

Junior lifeguard & scuba diving

One more junior lifeguard clinic for ages 10 through 14 is planned at the Lincoln Pool. It is Saturday, July 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost of the session is $20 for residents and $30 for non-residents.

Introduction to scuba classes for those 10 and older are scheduled for Sundays on July 24, and Aug. 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Manteca High pool. The cost is $10 or $20 for non-residents.

Extreme scuba camps are also being offered this year. The adult camp for those 18 and older is July 25-29 from 6 to 9 p.m. The fee for Manteca residents is $150 while non-residents pay $10 more.

Public & lap swimming

Lincoln Pool is open through Aug. 14 for public swimming. The hours are 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. as well as Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

Children 4 and under are free while youth 14 to 17 are $2, adults 18 to 61 are $3 and seniors 62 and up are $2.

Lap swimming for all ages takes place Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Manteca High. No pre-registration is required. You simply pay the $2 per session fee at the entrance to Manteca High swimming pool. A minimum of five swimmers are needed for the session to take place.

Lincoln Pool can also be rented for a minimum of two hours with lifeguards included for summer parties. The first two hours for groups of up to 50 people is $120 with each additional hour at $60. Groups of 51 to 10 people are $150 for the first two hours and $60 per additional hour.
