More than 100 eighth grade students from McParland Elementary School are ready to start the next chapter in their lives.

Parents, friends, and faculty packed into the Neil Hafley Elementary School multipurpose room Wednesday night to pay tribute to those students who had fulfilled the necessary requirements to proceed on to high school – giving the students a rousing round of applause as they filed into their seats and stood proudly on the stage before accepting their graduation certificates.

Student Raymond Barber led those in attendance in the flag salute, while Principal Dale Borgeson welcomed the parents and friends to the ceremony that honors the students who put in the hard work required to make it to Wednesday’s commencement ceremony.

Olivia Maria and Victoria Vezaldenos led their classmates on a trip down memory lane during a presentation about their class history, and Class President Alexandra Leece was in charge of presenting the class gift.

Manteca Unified’s Coordinator of Compensatory Education, Testing, and Evaluation, Mr. Steve Moretto, was on hand to formally accept the McParland Class of 2010 and present their certificates.

Stella Brockman
Sereena Hazelbaker-Alexander couldn’t help but show a little bit of emotion as she readied herself before making the march into Stella Brockman’s commencement ceremony Wednesday afternoon.

But as she made her way into the multipurpose room and onto the stage with her fellow graduates, the ear-to-ear beam never went away – something that appeared to be contagious among the roughly 90 graduates who will be progressing on to high school next year.

Stella Brockman students Brooke Becker and Chelsea Davis kicked off the ceremony with the Star Spangled Banner, while students Eva Pitts and Danielle Fenisey addressed their classmates about the hard work it took to get to the stage on Wednesday night.
