Link Crew at Manteca High began with freshmen orientation.
But it won’t stop there.
According to coordinator Nina Norton, Link Crew is planning to take on a more involved role with this group of newcomers making up the Class of 2015.
Included are 411 ninth-graders and 96 Link Crew leaders.
“This will be an all-year process,” she said during Friday morning’s event at Winter Gymnasium.
Together, they jam-packed the eastside of the bleachers, engaging in ice-breaking activities in an effort to get the high school newcomers away from their comfort zone.
Those attending this event received a spirited Buffalo welcome as they made their way through the gym via human tunnel.
“We’re really excited to be here,” said Norton, who was speaking on behalf of Link Crew.
Upperclassmen make up Link Crew. They’re volunteering their time and service to welcome and help freshmen make their transition into high school.
These leaders spent a few days training, arriving at the school on this morning at about 6:30 to set for orientation, according to Norton.
She and her group of leaders are again planning to have a tailgate party for freshmen at an upcoming Buffalo football game. Other events will be scheduled throughout the year.
Later in the year, Link Crew will visit seventh- and eighth- grade students at Manteca High’s feeder elementary school and conduct rallies, Norton said.
