LATHROP – The Lathrop Elementary School class of 2010 can walk into high school knowing that they’re already doing things just a little bit differently.
While most other elementary schools opted for the balloons and the frills for their 8th-grade commencement ceremonies, Principal David Silveira took his own route – instead opting for a morning ceremony that included breakfast for the graduates and their families as well as a gown-less ceremony that placed more emphasis on the next step that the students are taking in their educational journey.
Silveira officially welcomed all in attendance to start the promotion ceremony before students Alexandra Floresca and Jonathan Montes Coyt addressed their classmates with a speech that focused on both the journey they’ve taken together to get where they are, and what they have to look forward to when they arrive at Lathrop High School as the class of 2014 in the fall.
And the day wasn’t over before they heard from the man who will serve as their next principal when they take that crucial next step later this year.
Lathrop High Principal David Chamberlain spoke to the students about future expectations in a speech entitled “The Journey Continues” – culminating the morning after taking pictures throughout the breakfast portion of the event.
