Temperatures soared into triple digits Tuesday during back to school night at Joshua Cowell School.
What better way to beat the heat than serving up root beer floats.
The school’s Community Club did just that while also welcoming new members.
“We’ve been busy,” said Maria Lozano.
A senior at Manteca High, she along with MHS junior Jackie Kong managed to keep up with demands, working together to make root beer floats during the function.
Families of the 600-plus students of the school also had a chance to meet and greet with Bonnie Bennett, who is a first-year principal.
“I thought we had a good turnout,” she said.
Earlier, Bennett had a meeting with the folks of those fifth-grade students planning to attend the San Joaquin County Outdoor Education program – better known as science camp – in the spring.
Back to school night at Joshua Cowell included barbecue hot dogs served with a slice of watermelon made available to those in attendance.
In addition, the function featured information and vendor booth for Latino Literacy, Native American education, school shirts, and yearbook, just to name a few.
Back to school functions will be held today at several Manteca Unified sites, including:
•Neil Hafley School, 5:30 p.m. Hot dogs and chips will be available.
•Brock Elliott School, 5 p.m. Barbecue hot dogs will be served at that time with class room visits taking place after 6 o’clock.
•McParland School, 5 to 7:30 p.m.
•Joseph Widmer Jr. School, 5:30 p.m. Barbecue hot dogs will be available early on with classroom visits planned from 7 to 8 o’clock.
•Veritas School, 5:30 p.m. Barbecue hot dogs will be served with classroom visits taking place at about 6:30.
