Two teenagers — 16 and 17 years old — were shot in the leg and the foot shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday as they stood inside the Southland Mobile Home Park adjacent to northbound Highway 99 off of Lathrop Road just outside Manteca’s city limits.
Officers arrived on the scene and located one victim outside a mobile home while the other victim had been transported to a hospital by friends having sustained non-life threatening injuries. The suspect or suspects had fled the scene before officers arrived.
The teens had been parked on the east side of the property standing next to their vehicle when the suspect or suspects drove by with their lights turned off. Someone from the vehicle reportedly shot at the pair as they stood talking.
The vehicle reportedly left the mobile home park in an unknown direction. One of the victims reported the suspect vehicle was awhile 2007 model Chevrolet Impala or Monte Carlo or similar vehicle. The other victim described the car as being darker colored.
Officers said the shooting is possibly gang related and does not appear to be a random incident. Information provided by the victims is very limited, officers said.
Photos were obtained of a vehicle entering and leaving the premises near the time of the shooting. Anyone with information regarding the shooting is urged to call Manteca Police at 209.456.8101 or Crime Stoppers at 209.823.4636.
