Gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated charges were filed Monday by the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s office against Joe Anguiano Jr., in the death of his 21-month-old son JoJo in a head-on crash at the intersection of Airport Way and Lathrop Road at 9 p.m. Sunday June 21.

Baby JoJo was airlifted to Oakland’s Children’s Hospital by helicopter and passed away three days later from his injuries.  Since Anguiano had not been officially charged, he has remained free on his own recognizance and is now scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 9 at 1:30 p.m. in Department 35 of the Stockton Superior Court.  He will remain free until his court appearance.

In addition to the gross vehicular charge,  Anguiano will also answer to allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs with injury, causing injury to multiple victims, and the willful cruelty to a child with possible injury/death.

JoJo had been riding home with his parents in their 2014 Ford Focus when it collided with a 2005 Honda at the intersection of Airport Way and Lathrop Road where it reportedly overturned. The trapped couple had to be extricated by firefighters using the Jaws of Life.  The parents reportedly suffered major injuries and were transported to an area hospital.

The reported direction of travel had the Ford traveling eastbound on Lathrop Road and the Honda northbound on Airport Way.

A Gofundme account was opened in JoJo’s name to help pay medical and funeral bills that brought in support amounting to $18,485 in three months from 341 donors.
