Stockton keeps visitors buzzing with activities

Occasionally, folks of visitstockton.org will take the guise of tourists.

They use this time to venture off into parts of the area in search of things to do, according to office manager and CTA coordinator Megan Peterson.

Their recent excursion took them to the Stockton Delta KOA along 14900 W. Highway 12.

Peterson indicated Thursday that this place a few miles west of Interstate 5 came equipped with camp grounds – approximately 200 sites, including tents and RVs – waterslides and water sports rentals.

“I was amazed that there were plenty of activities for kids,” she said.

Here are among top things to-do in the area:

 Opportunity Cruises – The California Sunset is a US Coast Guard certified vessel that can accommodate up to 80 people. Rides along the San Joaquin River Delta include buffet and appetizers. Call 209.259.3815 or log on to www.opportunitycruises.com for more information.

 Stockton Civic Theatre – For more than 60 years, the troupe has entertained audiences with world-class performances of Broadway’s favorite musicals and plays (209.473.2424 / www.sctlivetheatre.org).

The Haggin Museum – This art and history museum has been referred to by Sunset magazine as “one of the under-sung gems of California.” The art collection here of popular American and European artists. The museum also offers a rich history of the area (209.940.6300 / www.hagginmuseum.org).
 Stockton Symphony Association – This is the third oldest orchestra in California and one of the preeminent performing arts organizations in San Joaquin County (209.951.0196 / www.stocktonsymphony.org).

Children’s Museum of Stockton – Featured here are hands-on, play-based exhibits designed to enhance a child’s understanding of how the world works not to mention an educational experience (209.465.4386 / www.childrensmuseumstockton.org).

 Brubeck Festival – A jazz festival held annually at the University of the Pacific, celebrating the musical, intellectual and philosophical ideas of the late great Dave Brubeck (209.946.3196 / www.pacific.edu).

 StocktonCon – This recently successful two-day event helps raise awareness of outstanding artists in the San Joaquin Valley area while celebrating pop-culture in its various forms (www.stocktoncon.com).

uEarth Day Festival – A celebration of spring and the environment is held annually at Victory Park with music, food and information booths (209.479.1944 / www.livegreensanjoaquin.org).

 Halloween on the Miracle Mile – Kids of all ages dressed as goblins, ghouls or their favorite superhero often look forward to trick-or-treating along the various businesses on Oct. 31 (209.948.MILE / www.stocktonmiraclemile.com).

 Stockton’s annual Lighted Boat Parade – This holiday event sponsored by the Marina West Yacht Club is part of the official tree lighting at Weber Point.
