Our Lady of Guadalupe is currently in need of donations for the food pantry.
This is a service offered at the Lathrop church located at 16200 Cambridge Drive to folks in Lathrop and French Camp regardless of their religious affiliation.
With the holiday season right around the corner, food items are in high demand.
“Right now, we have it posted in our church bulletin,” said Andrea, who is Our Lady of Guadalupe receptionist. “We also have children in our Religious Education Service taking home brown bags for food (donations) to help fill our pantry.”
The small church from the diocese of Stockton uses a handful of volunteers to coordinate the donated items. Some of the foods are non perishable while others are ready to be served to those families in need.
“It all depends on what (foods) we can get,” Andrea said.
The food pantry at Our Lady of Guadalupe is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
“Some of the food we buy while some are donated from parishioners or outside sources,” Andrea added.
Those in need of this service must provide the necessary forms of identification, proof of income and proof of being a Lathrop or French Camp residents.
The volunteers at Our Lady of Guadalupe are working to get turkeys and other holiday items especially with Thanksgiving fast approaching.
There are dozens of food pantries in San Joaquin County.
These centers distribute canned goods and other items, including personal hygiene supplies and gifts to struggling families.
“We’re a small church so we can only offer food,” said Andrea.
