Save Max to replace Mar Val

RIPON - Save Max grocery store is coming to Ripon and replace the 42-year-old Mar Val at the end of this week.

Located at the corner of Wilma and Main streets in the Town Square Shopping Center Mar Val is scheduled to close down on Saturday followed by a complete makeover to the building by Save Max with a green and orange tint color scheme.

Save Max will be competing with discount markets – with the promise of lower prices – such as Winco, Food Max, and Food 4 Less with a grand opening planned for Thursday, April 1.

Mar Val Vice President Steve Rodacker on Monday said Mar Val’s lease had run out at its central location in Ripon causing them to shutter the operation.  He added that most of the Mar Val personnel will join the Save Max staff next week.

“You’ll love it….you’ll love the concept….you’ll love the pricing,” Rodacker said.

One of two grocery stores in Ripon, Mar Val has had a following from the south side of the Highway 99 freeway including the Bethany Home campus and apartments as well as the residential areas around the store.  The store was first located in the 300 block of West Main Street in the downtown business community with its competition just across the street.

Mar Val saw a decrease in business after Save Mart opened a new market on the north side of Highway 99 and the Ripon community last year.

Mar Val currently has six stores from Georgetown to Prather near Fresno.  Other markets are in Escalon, Valley Springs and Groveland.
