What started out as just a brainstorming session at Fisherman’s Warehouse has become a local bass angler’s dream-come-true.

On Saturday, Fisherman’s Warehouse – which opened in 1982 as Delta Bait and Tackle and has been serving the needs of local anglers ever since – is hosting a free meet-and-greet with six members of the Bassmaster Elite tournament fishing series.

Scheduled to kick-off at 10 a.m., the all-day event will include not only autograph sessions for fans, but also sale prices on many of the brands that sponsor the six professionals who will be on hand for the day – which include Strike King Lures, Roboworms, TroKar and Eagle Claw hooks, Gamakatsu, and Ardent Reels.

As a way to promote the upcoming TroKar “Duel on the Delta” scheduled for March 11-14, tournament veterans Greg Hackney, Alton Jones, John Crews, Fred Rombanis and Aaron Martens are scheduled to appear at the East Highway 120 store – located just West of Austin Road.

Auburn-resident Skeet Reece – who won the 2009 Bassmaster Classic on the Red River in Shreveport, LA – will also be on hand for the event.

“It started as just an idea that we were throwing around with some of the staff and the fishermen who come in here,” said staffer Shelly Bognaes. “We figured with the tournament coming up it would be a good chance to have some of the guys come in and meet their fans here. We’ve had tournament professionals here in the past, but never an event this big.”
With more than a thousand miles of shore, the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta has long been a fishing hotspot and a favorite for bass anglers that like the multitude of options that the estuary affords.

The Stockton-based Delta tournament usually draws large crowds to the final weigh-in – which has taken place in past years near Weber Point in Downtown Stockton.

Fisherman’s Warehouse Manager Tim Sellars – who remembers when iconic fishermen like Roland Martin and Jimmy Houston were on hand to greet customers and sign autographs – says that he’s looking forward to the event.

“It’s something that the fans are really going to enjoy,” Sellars said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun for everybody who comes out.”

Fisherman’s Warehouse is located at 2201 E. Yosemite Avenue – just west of Austin Road. The store is open on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and expects autographs with the first professional to get underway at 10 a.m. For more information, visit www.fishermanswarehouse.com, or call 239-2248.
