BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Ripon falls short in West tournament semifinal

Marcus Madoski poured in a game-high 29 points on Friday, but it wasn’t enough for Ripon in a 62-55 loss to Kennedy in the West Winter Holiday Classic semifinal.

Noah Hayes III and Aharon Young scored 17 points apiece for the Cougars (4-2) from Sacramento, who face tourney host West or Leadership in the championship game today at 3.

The Indians (2-5) will play the loser for third place at 1:30.


GIRLS

Riverbank 62, Ripon 36

The former Trans-Valley League rivals met in a consolation semifinal at the Liberty Ranch Tournament.

Paloma Reyes made four of Riverbank’s nine 3-pointers, finishing with a game-high 16 points. Taylor Macias and Leilani Olanolan added 13 and 12 respectively, for the Bruins (6-1).

Ripon (2-7) was spearheaded by Leila Sanchez’s 13points and three 3s.


Freshman boys

St. Mary’s 57 Sierra 39
St. Mary’s raced away with a 20-2 third-quarter burst, making four of its eight 3-pointers.

Kiran Tran scored 13 points with three 3s for Sierra. Travis Rose racked up eight points, while Cayden Hughes and Sam Taylor each had seven.


Freshman girls

East Union 45, Gregori 38

Camille Christensen and Jisselle Tuggles each scored 13 points to lead the Lancers, while Madelynn Valles contributed with 11.

East Union trailed 21-16 at halftime but faulted ahead with a 16-5 third quarter.
