The Knights senior tallied a triple-double and a pair of double-doubles in leading Ripon Christian to a 2-1 Trans-Valley League record last week.
“Coming off a concussion, Maddie led us to two TVL wins last week,” Knights coach Mike Vander Molen said. “She is able to break most full-court presses by herself, so we really missed her in previous losses against Escalon and Hughson.
“Being the only senior, she really has a lot of responsibility, and I see her pushing herself to be a great team leader. She is persevering through a really bad ankle injury this summer, and then the concussion was very scary. I am looking forward to her getting back on track for the second round of league. Last week was a good sign for the coming weeks.”
In Friday’s 28-27 home win at home over Ripon on Friday, in addition to her double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds along with two assists and two steals, Yonker gave Ripon Christian its first lead of the night at 24-21 with a 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter and set up the eventual game-winning shot by Reagan Van der Hoek with 28 seconds remaining with a pinpoint assist.
Yonker started the week on Tuesday leading the Knights to a 51-39 at Hilmar with a triple-double of 15 points, 15 rebounds and 10 steals with six assists and two blocks. She had a double-double in Thursday’s 44-25 home loss to Riverbank with 17 points and 11 rebounds along with three steals, two assists and two blocks.
