A longtime and beloved member of the congregation at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church is being mourned after he was killed outside of his residence in Stockton last week.

Loren Faria, 59, was reportedly found by police on the morning of April 20 with blunt force trauma to his body outside of the apartment building where he lived in Stockton near the intersection of Sutter Street and Miner Ave.

The cause of death is currently under investigation.

Faria, a devout Catholic, attended Mass at St. Anthony’s for years and developed many friendships with people in the community – many of whom posted touching tributes to a person they said always had a smile on his face, and always treated others with warmth and kindness.

He was a graduate of East Union High School.

Stockton Police arrested 18-year-old Walter Green less than an hour after Faria was killed after a woman called 911 and reported that somebody was trying to attack her with a knife.

Green is currently being held in the San Joaquin County Jail without bail for murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and vandalism. He isn’t due back in court until May 8 when he is scheduled to appear in Department 8B of the San Joaquin County Superior Court in Downtown Stockton at 8:30 a.m.
