The first retail storefront in Manteca could open before summer.
Two of the three operators awarded permits by the Manteca City Council — Embarc Cannabis and Nectar Cannabis — have remodeling plans for their respective locations being reviewed by municipal staff.
A third — Off the Charts — has yet to submit plans to the Community Development Department.
The three locations are:
*Embarc Manteca at 1148 South Main Street in the small strip center behind Dairy Queen.
*Off the Charts Manteca in the space formerly occupied by Main Auto Repair at 2325 West Yosemite Avenue near the municipal wastewater treatment plant.
*Nectar Market in the former Golden Bear Physical Therapy space at 1519 Yosemite Avenue near Valley Oak Dental.
City Manager Toni Lundgren said there was a slight delay in finalizing agreements with the three concerns due to a legal issue that arose in Patterson regarding how that city’s cannabis operation was implemented.
Lundgren said Manteca addressed those issues in a bid to avoid them from happening here.
Community benefit agreements (CBA) with the three concerns will be brought before the City Council in the coming weeks for approval.
The CBA will determine exactly what type of revenue deal the city will secure as well as what each concern will provide in terms of annual community benefits.
Remodeling plans are being carefully vetted concurrently by community development as well as police and fire.
They will include heightened onsite security measures significantly beyond what a typical retail business is required to have.
It includes police dispatch feeds of all security cameras that are required to enable a 24/7 livestream
That is in addition to extensive background checks and operating protocols the city will enforce.
